Productinformation about blockhain
Origin story Gebroeders Vahl is a modern family business, located in the horticultural area 'Koekoekspolder' in IJsselmuiden. Dries Vahl started growing open ground vegetables and chicory in 1950. The first greenhouse was built in 1959. In the decades that followed, the nursery grew to 10.1 hectares of glass surface and 2.5 hectares of organic tomatoes and peppers. Cucumbers are grown sustainably in the greenhouses. Son André and two nephews currently run the company.
Product origin The cucumbers that Hutten buys and uses are 'extra green'. This is because they grow in greenhouses heated by geothermal energy. And this has been the case since 2012, when the Vahl brothers from the eponymous nursery in IJsselmuiden switched to this sustainable energy source.
Certifications GlobalGAP
CO2 emissions Since 2012, the greenhouses have been heated with sustainable geothermal energy. Geothermal energy replaces natural gas as a heat source. By using geothermal energy, the company saves approximately 80% on the use of natural gas. This also significantly reduces CO2 emissions.
