Product description Courgettes

Tielen Groenten grows courgettes in the open ground. The company has around 400 hectares of land, of which around 100 hectares are organically grown. It is important for the pollination of courgettes that insects, such as bees, first collect pollen from the male flowers and then transfer it to the female flowers. This means there are a lot of insects needed for this process. That is why extra flower beds are sown and beehives are placed near the courgettes. Well cared for soil is also crucial: soil is plouged shallower as it ensures less disruption of the soil structure and better soil quality.

Origin story In 2002 Johan Tielen, then only 21 years old, took over the family business Tielen Groenten from his father. Entrepreneurship, innovation and a sustainable heart brought the company to where it is today. “We now grow 26 different types of vegetables, both organic and conventional,” says company manager Jeroen Huijs. “We think organic is the best form of cultivation. That really is the future.” Hutten buys its courgettes from Tielen.
